The Vinteloper Story
Founded by David Bowley in 2008/9 & owned & operated under his control since, it is David's desire to unapologetically produce artisan wines that have integrity, interest & intrigue. In the modern world where life move fast & digitalism infects our daily lives, the pride derived from producing something physical, that to him represents bottled time, is what drives David.
The "Home Vineyard" is located near Norton Summit in the Adelaide Hills where David maintains 54 rows (3.5 acres) of Pinot Noir, 15 rows (1.5 acres) of Chardonnay & 17 short rows (1.2 acres) of Shiraz. Additional grapes are sourced from vineyards owned by friends & family in the regions of Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek, Southern Fleurieu & Clare Valley, vineyards that in some cases, David has worked on over several years.
The winery, based in the Adelaide Hills, has no other staff and no modern equipment. David believes it's not the size of the winery rather the dedication, attention and focus that are most important to his winemaking.
Growing up in the Adelaide foothills, David developed an interest in wine during his high school years. Driving along Oaklands Road to Sacred Heart College each day, David passed one of Australia's most famous suburban vineyards, a small block in front of Marion swimming centre that still supplies Patritti Wines to this day. As the number of times David past this vineyard mounted, so did his curiosity.
It was around this time that David began working with cork importer Vasconcelos & Lyncke Australia. From these formative days, the path was set, albeit subconciously, a genuine interest in wine, the science of production and all things adjacent had begun to develop.
David graduated from a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Oenology) at Adelaide University in 2002, going on to experience vintages in Australia and abroad. David's focus has now become pairing the premium regions South Australia possesses with their pre-eminent varieties to create his own truly artisan wines.
