The Black Label wines are an experimental range where we can really flex our creative winemaking muscle.

5 years in the bottle - We did the hard work for you.

Age has given this wine real interest. There's eager maturity here.

Primary fruit still leads a classic Pinot Noir narrative. The underlying red fruit, led by strawberry and cherry keep it held together, but here we see secondary characters of cigar box, cedar, forest floor and roasted mushroom grab your attention.

Tannins are creamy, showing their maturity, and the smooth oak integration sets the wine beautifully on the palate

Pinot Noir is the biggest challenge we face, as winegrowers and winemakers.

So delicate in the hands of either, the classic varietal characters of Pinot Noir shine here. It's so lifted, the time is the first assault on your olfactory system.

Primary vs Secondary in a battle for supremacy.  As the palate draws out to its ends, the cherry, floral and spices of Primary that take the victory over valiant secondary characters of cigar box, soil and cedar.

Delicious doesn't sum this up. It's deeper, considered and serious.

Robb Cootes is the owner and custodian of our ODEON vineyard. Planted in 1986, this close planted Pinot Noir is one of the longest established vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, and anyone who has visited it knows it is also one of the best.

The care and attention each vine gets from Robb and has gotten for over 35 years, is next to impossible to replicate and borders on insanity. The wines we are lucky enough to make from his vineyard are truly special for all the reasons wine is loved, studied and revered the world over.

We take our responsibility as custodians of this legacy extremely seriously. That's the origins of this wine.

Originally set for ODEON Pinot Noir, we felt that our performance as Winemakers in 2015 was not up to the high standard demanded by Robb. So instead of releasing a 2015 ODEON Pinot Noir, we bottled this wine and set it aside for maturation.

Make of that what you will... Is this declassified ODEON Pinot Noir? Yes.
