When we purchased our farm in 2018 there was a glaring fact. On the property, we had a very nice patch of Sauvignon Blanc.

Problem - Vinteloper had not made any since 2012. 

Solution - now that you can grow it yourself, with your own twist, it was time to dip the toe back in. 

Rising from the success of the 2018 Fumé comes this unabbreviated style from the challenging 2020 season. Although we lost our own vines to the bushfire, we know they will grow back and focussing our energy on innovating with this wine continues to inspire our recovery.

We love how there are opposing forces to mess with as you consider this wine.

It has vibrant grassy Sauvignon meets lemon verbena playing against these waxy and multi-layered textures. Mix in the Citrus Wizz Fizz, before a left-right-left combo of passionfruit, tangelo and butter on toast, punches you in the chops.

As the palate unfurls the phenolics kick in, building the textural elements of this wine.

  • Harvest date: 23rd March 2020

  • After handpicking, chilled the fruit overnight for maximum freshness.
  • Old world Sauvignon making - giving it Barrels + time. 
  • Split 55% for barrel fermentation - to build layers and texture.
  • Matured in oak for 10 months. 
  • Split 45% for tank fermentation - to give a sprinkle of freshness. 
  • Extended Lees contact for some extra mid-palate weight.
  • The bravery it takes to make mistakes.
  • Spencer Gulf King Prawns chargrilled with lemon and roasted butter.
  • Ideal serving temperature 12 degrees.
