SH/22 - Shiraz

A FUTURE CLASSIC.

While our own vines remained in bushfire recovery;
We sourced Shiraz for 2022 from Helenvale Vineyard.

A site we've worked with since the 2014 vintage, and a source of many of our best Shiraz since then.

Restrained complexity is what Adelaide Hills Shiraz does so well, and our 2022 release is the poster child. 

Do not expect the Shiraz your Dad drinks.

This is our interpretation of what our friends want to slide into their glass.

The 14th vintage of Shiraz produced by Vinteloper.
From 2008 to 2022 only the 2011 vintage was omitted.

The 2022 edition opens with blue fruit, baking spices and mentos freshness.
Verse two brings the blackcurrant and darker fruits with a hint of 'barrel room' aroma, which smells like money to a winemaker.

The palate ramps up the complexity, starting with charred oak underpinning the complex dark fruits, dried apricot and sticky date pudding. Then clove, white pepper and mixed roasted veg umami.
You can sense the time invested by the length and complexity that presents.
The finish remains lively and 'mentos fresh'

While our estate vines remained in bushfire recovery mode, we were pleased to once again work with Helenvale Vineyard, above Kangarilla in the southern Adelaide Hills.

A site we've worked with since the 2014 vintage, and source of many of our best Shiraz since then.

Harvested on 5th April 2022
Straight up Shiraz winemaking.
Great fruit = great results.
A long and controlled fermentation.
On skins for a total of 11 days before pressing to complete fermentation in oak.

20% New French Oak, 80% seasoned. 
Matured in barrel for 21 months.
Bottled January 2024.
Matured in bottle until July 2025.

No fining or filtration.
Ready to drink now to 2035

Our SH/22 has medium to full-bodied feels. It's Shiraz, no doubt, but from our cool climate, it's subtle.

It's still the top candidate for matching with the traditional proteins, cooked over fire preferably.
